About Rae Across America

My Rae Across America Facebook page began in 2013 when I set out on a Walk Across America in order to raise money and awareness for eating disorders. My plans were to walk 2,613 miles from Philadelphia, PA to Richland, WA over a span of about 94 days. However, due to unforeseen weather conditions and a foot infection, my journey lasted only 80 miles.

Even though I felt incredibly sad about not being able to complete my walk, I know I still succeeded in my goal. Money was raised to start a scholarship fund for someone to obtain treatment for their battles. Additionally, awareness spread like wild fire.

Since that time I have been organizing fundraisers, appearing as a guest speaker, and doing what I can to help others battle this deadly disorder.  I have been a guest speaker at Columbia Basin College's Don't Quit Program, Horse Heaven Middle School, TriCity Rotary Club, and Kennewick Kiwanis.

Part of my recovery from my own eating disorder is the realization that I'm now here to help others in their path to wellness. My overall goal is to help reduce and remove the stigma and negative stereotypes that our society has placed around eating disorders and other mental health illnesses. I believe the more we can talk about these struggles and share our stories, the more we can heal and benefit from each other.

I obtained my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Washington State University in May, 2013 and am now pursuing a Psy.D. in Clinical Psych. Through my studies I hope to be able to become trained and learned in the skills and knowledge needed to help those around me to my full potential!
